Just Listen by Sarah Dessen

One of the conflicts that the main character Annabel is facing, is the fact that her sister has a eating disorder; anorexia. Anabel changes throughout the book because of her sister. She feels that she needs to take care of her sister, and her parents are putting pressure on her also because they really want her to watch after her sister Whitney. When Annabel was younger, her and her sisters would get along so well. But now that Whitney has this eating disorder, everything changes...Whitney does not talk to anyone in her family, throws tantrums when her parents force her to eat, and locks herself into her room everyday.
I think that if Whitney didnt have anorexia, her family wouldnt have to suffer and watch over her back all the time. At the same time, I feel like Whitney should have took better care for herself in the first place. But then again, it isnt her fault that she got so depressed...i think that Annabel also should talk to Whitney and talk to her about the disease and their sisterhood. I feel like that would bring them closer together.
Another conflict that Annabel is going through, is the fact that she wants to quit modeling, but she doesnt want to break the news to her mom because she knows that her mom has a passion for her modeling. She thinks that if she tells her mom that she wants to quit modeling, her mom will be depressed forever. Her grandmother died, and she doesnt want to ruin it for her mom anymore. I think that Annabel would feel beter if she told her mom, but her mom wouldnt. so i think she shouldnt tell her mom . She she think about other first before herself.

  2. You post is really well crafted Rhythm! I read this book last year and I really liked what you said in the second paragraph about Annabel talking to Whitney about her disease and their sisterhood because it could reopen their "lost" sisterhood and make it stronger. I never thought about it the way you did, but I throughout the book that's one thing I wanted Annabel to do and tell her mom she didn't want to model anymore. Happy Birthday i<3 u :P!!

  3. heyyy! this is my favorite book and i really like your post. i liked the way you thought about Annabel and what she was going through, and you gave your point of view. but i disagree about the lat thing you said how she should think about others before she thinks about herself. she has always put other people before her, like Sophie and her sisters. and she really doesn't want to model anymore so i think that she should just tell her mom nicely and she would understand.
